Information for the members of Golf de Valescure
THE 1895 CLUB
1. Introduction.
The 1895 Club was formed by golf clubs which all celebrated their centenary in 1995.
All member clubs of the 1895 Club offer reciprocal courtesy of the course, (waiver of green fee), to visiting members from other 1895 clubs.
The ‘Coordinating Member Club’ is Handsworth GC, Birmingham. Have a look at their website, www.handsworthgc.co.uk.

3. Facilities of Member Clubs
Descriptions of the golf courses, and club houses, changing rooms, etc., are included in the club websites.
4. Location of the Member Clubs.
Click here for the map of Grande Bretagne showing the approximate location of each Member Club. (A hard copy is available from the office of Golf de Valescure).
A large detailed map showing the location of each Member Club is displayed in the club house of Golf de Valescure.
To have the exact location of each club go to the websites www.multimap.com or www.mappy.fr or www.viamichelin.com and key in the postal code of the club.
For example.
Broadway GC; postal code : WR12 7LG.
The postal code is also very useful when using a Sat-Nav or GPS to find a club.
5. Reciprocal ‘courtesy of the course’.
Each Member Club makes their own rules as to the number of courtesies and visitors from other Member Clubs.
For example, Torphin Hill GC, Edinburgh.
‘4 courtesies’; for a party of four visitors ; waiver of all four green fees.
‘4 courtesies’; for a party of eight visitors; waiver of four green fees and the other four visitors to pay the full green fee.
Golf de Valescure.
Maximum of 8 courtesies, (in total from all Member Clubs), in any one day, playing in maximum two groups,(example; 2 x 4-balls or 2 x 3-balls)..
One courtesy per person per year.
Visitors are welcome to play in ‘open’ club competitions.
6. Reservations
All reservations for the members of Golf de Valescure are to be made officially through the office of Golf de Valescure.
It is essential to make and confirm reservations in writing, by letter or Email, as visitors are in general not accepted during club competition days, and in some clubs not at the weekends.
In most clubs specific days are reserved for gentlemen members and for lady members. When making a reservation it is therefore essential to specify the composition of the visiting party; gentlemen, ladies or mixed.
7. Letter of Introduction.
Each visitor must have a ‘letter of introduction’ from Golf de Valescure, which must include a statement of the player’s handicap. The standard letter provided by the club will be bi-lingual in French and English.
Visitors to Member Clubs must respect their traditions.
You will be the ‘ambassadors’ of Golf de Valescure and of golf in France.
8. Dress Code
Many of the Member Clubs maintain traditional dress codes, usually indicated on their websites. For example; absolutely no jeans, no shorts except Bermudas worn with knee length socks, no shirts without collars, no golf shoes in the club houses except for the changing rooms.
If you wish to have access to all parts of the club houses including the restaurant, it is prudent to have a jacket and tie available, which will be required in some clubs. (It is better to be ‘over dressed’ than the contrary).
In some Member Clubs there are separate gentlemen’s lounges, ladies’ lounges and mixed lounges.
Ask the manager of the club which dress is required for access to which part of the club house.
9. Car Parks
Do not change clothes and shoes in the club car parks. Use the club changing rooms, which usually have a security code and /or lockers for visitors.
10. Mobile Phones
The use of mobile phones on the golf courses and in the club houses is strictly forbidden in British golf clubs. Switch off your mobile phone and leave it in the car.
11. Format of Play
The Member Clubs will determine the format of play; 2, 3 or 4-balls, as in some clubs there are specific starting times for 2-ball and 3 or 4-ball games.
12. Etiquette on the Golf Course
Full respect of the etiquette of golf is absolutely obligatory.
See : Rules of Golf : R&A / FFG booklet, page 28.
13. Slow Play
Avoid slow play at all times.
“Keep immediately behind the game in front, and not immediately in front of the game behind”.
Local club members will tend to play quickly on their own course,
and it is obligatory to let faster games play through, (2, 3 or 4 balls).
Letting the faster games play through is a strong tradition and a very important issue in British golf clubs. It will allow you to enjoy your visit.
You will be expected to play in the following times.
Foursomes : 3 hours
2-Ball : 3.10
3-Ball : 3.20
4-Ball : 3.30
Enjoy your golf !!
